Twitter Creators' CoTweet

Twitter Creators' CoTweet

Twitter's creator ecosystem was at a crossroads. As Acting Design Director for the Creators team and Principal Designer for Creator's zero-to-one initiatives, I noticed something fascinating: creators were desperately trying to collaborate, but were stuck with clunky tools like basic tagging and retweeting. The opportunity? Transform casual interactions into meaningful partnerships.

Role

Interim Design Director

Team Size Managed

2 Staff + 2 Sr. Designer

Duration

2 Months

Challenge

The existing tools were holding creators back. Mentions felt like cold handshakes, retweets like distant waves. We needed something that would transform casual interactions into true partnerships.

The real question wasn't just how to enable collaboration—it was how to make it the engine of creator growth.
Design Strategy

We built our strategy around a simple truth: great collaborations feel natural, not forced. After spending time with creators, we developed our "Equal Partners, Equal Growth" philosophy. Every feature had to pass this test: Does it treat both creators as true partners? Does it help both grow their audiences? We made trust our foundation and growth our north star.

Solution

CoTweet emerged as our answer—turning collaboration from an afterthought into an art form. Think of it as giving creators a shared stage, not just a mention in the credits. Both names shine equally bright, engagement is shared, and everyone knows the rules of the game. We built a safety system that feels less like a security checkpoint and more like a clear agreement between friends, along with analytics that tell the story of shared success.

Impact

The numbers exceeded our wildest expectations:

  • 65% of top creators made CoTweet central to their strategy within weeks

  • 3.1% boost in follower growth for creators using the feature

  • 10% higher engagement on collaborative posts

Learnings

This journey taught us that the best platform features don't just solve problems—they unlock new possibilities. We watched creators turn CoTweet into everything from collaborative storytelling to joint product launches.
